A 23-year-old woman, identified as Akua Afriyie, is in police custody for allegedly killing her four-year-old son by throwing him into a well at Karlo, a community in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
The tragic incident was confirmed by the Assembly Member for the Karlo Electoral Area, Eric Armah.
According to Mr. Armah, he received a distress call reporting that a child had fallen into a well. He rushed to the scene with some community members, where they found the lifeless body of the young boy floating in the water.
The incident was immediately reported to the police. While at the Dadieso Police Station, a young woman arrived claiming her son had accidentally fallen into a well.
However, further investigations revealed that the woman was, in fact, the boy’s mother. She was subsequently arrested after initial police interrogations and eyewitness accounts suggested she may have deliberately pushed the child into the well.
The suspect remains in police custody at Dadieso.
The body of the child has since been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigations.
