Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has pledged his support for the creative arts industry despite his new roles as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.

Speaking at the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed appreciation for the gospel musician’s work and promised to always support her.

He noted that despite his involvement in agriculture and politics, he remains committed to the creative arts sector.

“Despite the fact that I am an MP now and in the Agric Ministry, I will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector. I will always be an arts person. I will always be a creative person, and if we don’t develop our own, who else will do it for us?” he said at the event, which was held at Tang Palace in Accra.

He added that even though some people overlook the creative industry, it plays a significant role in Ghana’s economy.

On February 6, Dumelo was announced as the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture. Before his nomination, many had tipped him for a ministerial role in the Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts Ministry.

Over the past few years, Dumelo has been actively involved in agriculture and has encouraged the youth to take the sector seriously.

He currently serves as the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
