Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has criticised Justice Blay over his recent controversial remarks about Asante Kotoko, describing them as “unfortunate and unnecessary.”

Blay, who spent five seasons with the Porcupine Warriors, was released at the end of the 2024/25 football season. In an interview on Pure FM following his exit, the midfielder made explosive claims, alleging that some Kotoko players engaged in misconduct, including alcohol consumption during camp and involvement with teammates’ partners.

The comments triggered widespread backlash from fans and football pundits, with many accusing Blay of tarnishing the club’s image.

Responding to the controversy, Agyemang Badu expressed disappointment, especially given Blay’s leadership history and the respect he enjoyed during his time at Kotoko.

“When they level all allegations against you, you want to come out and defend yourself. But he has to know he is a leader. It didn’t happen yesterday, and you were able to keep it calm until now. When you are leaving, you want to just mess up all the good things you have done for Kotoko,” Badu told LUV FM.

While acknowledging that Blay may have felt unfairly criticised, Badu insisted that the public outburst did more harm than good.

“I understand his emotions. Maybe a lot has been levelled against him. But when you want to defend yourself this way, you attract unnecessary attention. So, it is just unfortunate and unnecessary,” he added.

Blay has since issued an official apology to the club, expressing regret for his remarks.
