The Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has announced that processes are underway to recruit 12,000 personnel into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

According to him, qualified applicants will be enlisted into both the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS) and the Ghana Military Academy as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s military capacity

Dr. Boamah made the announcement during a working visit to key military installations within the 1 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces, which lasted over 11 hours.

“At the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS), we assessed our readiness to recruit and enlist 12,000 new personnel (to the ARTS and the Ghana Military Academy), and we are excited about the future of our military,” he said in a Facebook post.

He was quick to caution the public against fraud, reaffirming that recruitment into the Armed Forces remains strictly merit-based.

“Recruitment and enlistment into GAF is not for sale and will not be for sale under my #EAGLEEYES watch!” he stressed.

As part of the tour, Dr. Boamah visited several medical facilities, identified operational challenges, and initiated steps to improve the quality of healthcare for service personnel.

He also commended the leadership of Commodore Asiedu-Larbi and the troops for their “tireless efforts.”

The tour included inspections at the Eastern Naval Command, where he observed strategic installations, and at Michel Camp, where soldiers demonstrated their ability to respond to explosive threats.

“We’re working hard under President Mahama’s #ResettingGhana agenda to ensure our soldiers’ welfare and safety,” the Minister added.
