The rate at which institutions of various categories go on strikes has become quite alarming, since the beginning of the year 2024.
The College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) have vowed to go an indefinite strike due to certain demands they made to the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC), which have fallen on deaf ears.
Demands made by CETAG involve the enforcement of the National Labour Commission Arbitral Awards and salary increments.
The warning to the FWSC body was issued by CETAG on June, 14, 2024, to see if their petitions would be responded to.
However, the Fair Wages and Salary Commission came out to persuade the teachers association to hold on with their bid to go on strikes, as government will work on sorting out all their grievances.
This did not sit down well the CETAG, which led to the indefinite shutdown of lecture halls and schools.
Till date, there has been no resumption of studies, not to talk of official duties often administered to the students.
As expected, the students from these colleges of education have also come out to state their fears and pleas.
They are worried they may not be able to salvage all they have scheduled to learn for the semester, which will go a long way to affect their examination scores.
Nevertheless, the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana has given the mandate to all teacher training institutions to not go to the lecture halls until they hear a reasonable feedback from the Fair Wages and Salary Commission and the ruling government.
