The Children Support Fund, established to care for the children of victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, has now received a total of GHS 8,600,905 and US$20,000 in donations.This was according to the latest Public Update Five (5) issued on October 17, 2025, by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund.
The update lists new donors, including the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), BOST Energies, Bui Power Authority, Energy Commission, and the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited. Others include Kow Eduakwa Sam, Israel Quarme Arye, Timothy Addai Adivilah Balagkutu, Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, and various agencies under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
This fifth public update reflects contributions received between September 23 and October 12, raising the cumulative total to more than GHS 8.6 million in local currency and $20,000 USD.
The Fund continues to accept donations through Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited’s Stanbic Heights Branch and via approved MoMo payment platforms, ensuring transparency and accessibility for public support.
The Fund was launched shortly after the tragic helicopter crash that claimed several lives near the Atewa Forest area.
The initiative was announced by the Presidency to provide long-term educational and welfare support for children left behind by the victims of the disaster.
Earlier updates trace the rapid growth of the Fund. The first official statement, released on August 19, 2025, announced that the Fund had already accrued GHS 2.3 million, including a GHS 500,000 seed donation from Stanbic Bank Ghana.
A second update, issued in early September, indicated that contributions had risen to GHS 6.5 million and US$20,000, with new donors joining from both government agencies and the private sector.
By late September, a third update showed that the Fund had reached GHS 7.2 million and maintained its US$20,000 foreign donation, reflecting continued public goodwill and accountability in the management of contributions.
The latest “Update Five” shows the Fund’s continued momentum, adding over GHS 1.4 million more in barely three weeks. Dr. Sawyerr, in her statement, expressed gratitude to all contributors for “demonstrating the Ghanaian spirit of solidarity and compassion,” urging more citizens and corporate bodies to donate towards the welfare of the children.
Government officials have emphasized that the Fund’s administration remains transparent, with periodic public disclosures and strict oversight mechanisms to ensure that resources are used solely for the intended beneficiaries.
Plans are underway to establish a long-term support framework for the affected children, focusing on education, health, and general welfare.
The August 6 helicopter tragedy, which deeply shocked the nation, continues to draw sympathy and support from all sectors.
