The projected winner of the December 7 general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has recorded a resounding victory in the Volta Region, according to provisional figures.
This result reaffirms the region’s strong support and loyalty to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which garnered 584,234 votes, representing approximately 90.11% of the total valid votes cast.
In the Keta Constituency, the NDC secured 39,995 votes, while the Anlo Constituency delivered 37,062 votes. Electorates in Akatsi South Constituency contributed 31,564 votes to Mahama’s tally, with 17,287 votes coming from the Agotime Ziope Constituency.
In Ho Central, Mahama polled 65,392 votes, representing a dominant 93.33% of valid votes cast. The Ho West Constituency also showed strong support, delivering 29,812 votes.
Other constituencies in the region followed suit, with the NDC recording 18,022 votes in South Dayi, 22,015 in Kpando, 15,155 in North Dayi, 22,405 in Afadzato South, and 13,716 in Adaklu.
As expected, Ketu South Constituency emerged as the NDC’s stronghold, delivering the highest number of votes at 76,760, compared to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 5,232 votes. South Tongu contributed 43,437 votes to the NDC’s total, while North Tongu and Central Tongu provided 40,653 and 31,190 votes, respectively.
In the Ketu North Constituency, 39,865 voters endorsed John Mahama’s bid for a return to power. Hohoe Constituency, where the NDC regained the parliamentary seat from the NPP’s John Peter Amewu, added 36,739 votes to Mahama’s total in the presidential race.
The Akatsi North Constituency rounded off the region’s contributions with 12,025 votes for Mahama, solidifying the Volta Region’s overwhelming support for his leadership.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is yet to officially declare the final results of the election. However, the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat and congratulated Mahama on his victory.
The NDC is also projected to have secured a significant majority of parliamentary seats, positioning the party as the dominant force in the next Parliament.
