President John Mahama has expressed gratitude to the Ashanti Region for its pivotal contribution to his electoral victory in the 2024 presidential election.
This is despite the fact that the region is not considered his party’s stronghold.
Speaking during his visit to the first Akwasidae Festival of the year, President Mahama acknowledged the region’s support and assured the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of his commitment to ensuring equitable development.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Asanteman. Many might not consider this the stronghold of my party, but in this election, I believe that the confidence and the votes that the Ashanti Region gave us contributed to the overwhelming victory that I scored,” Mr Mahama stated.
He further assured the Asantehene and the people of the region that his administration would prioritize fair development across the country.
“I can assure you that you can count on me, and that when we are sharing the national cake, I will make sure that the Ashanti Region gets its fair share,” he added.
As part of his visit, President Mahama is expected to hold a private meeting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Among the key topics for discussion is the ongoing Bawku conflict, as the President seeks to engage traditional authorities in finding a lasting solution to the protracted dispute.
