The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has criticized the apology issued by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, arguing that it lacked clarity and failed to directly acknowledge any wrongdoing.
His remarks come amid strong opposition from the Minority members of the Appointments Committee, who objected to Buah’s approval over his refusal to retract or apologize for statements he made regarding former President Akufo-Addo’s address on January 3, 2025.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, John Darko contended that Buah’s apology was vague and evasive, failing to address the concerns raised by those who took issue with his comments.
“He said that what he said was a reflection of the views of Ghanaians. For somebody to say that means he believes in what he said. On the other hand, he said that if it appeared disrespectful, then he was sorry.
“But for me, during the vetting, his answers were very invasive. In most of them, Armah-Kofi Buah did not put his neck out to clearly state his position. I wanted to raise this on the floor of Parliament, but I didn’t get the opportunity,” Darko stated.
Despite the controversy, Buah’s nomination was eventually approved by Parliament, clearing the way for him to assume his ministerial role.
