Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has revealed that the decision to

keep Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars was not an easy one for the Executive Council.

Addo, 49, faced significant pressure after his failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with many fans calling for his dismissal.

However, in an interview with Sporty FM, Asante Twum shared that the meeting that ultimately decided Addo’s fate lasted for hours and was far from straightforward.

He explained, “It was a very tensed atmosphere where the Council members espoused their feelings and their positions on the future of the technical team. Not all of them said yes. It was very very difficult. I sat there for hours and still it got to the point where there was a still, it got to the point where there was a stalemate so the meeting had to be adjourned and for them to reconvene again so it was tough.

Asante Twum emphasized that the final decision was not an easy one, stating, “It was not just a straightforward decision that after hearing from him or listening to him, we want to say yes or we are all saying yes to his continuous stay in office or otherwise. It was very tough. The end product is that he will stay based on the council’s stay. But the factors that led to the decision was very very tough.”

In response to ongoing challenges, the GFA has strengthened the technical team by appointing Winfried Anton Schafer as Technical Advisor, Gregory De Grauwe as Video Analyst, and Kris Perquy as the new Team Psychologist.
