Ghanaian man stabbed to death in Canada; one arrested

A tragic incident unfolded in Saskatoon, Canada, on Monday night as a 23-year-old Ghanaian man, identified only as Alfred by acquaintances, was fatally stabbed.

The incident occurred at a business in the 3900 block of Millar Avenue around 7 p.m.

Emergency responders arrived after receiving a distress call at 8 p.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The suspect, a 53-year-old man, was apprehended shortly after near 2nd Avenue South and Spadina Crescent East.

He has since been charged with first-degree murder.

Maame Pokuah, a Ghanaian resident in Toronto, shared that the victim, originally from Kumasi-Afrancho, had recently moved to Canada in September 2024.

Alfred was reportedly attacked by the suspect, a co-worker and friend who often provided him with transportation to work.

The unprovoked attack occurred during a work break, with the suspect stabbing Alfred 17 times before fleeing the scene.

Saskatoon Police confirmed that their Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section are conducting further investigations into the matter.

The Ghanaian community in Canada are devastated by the loss, as they call for justice in this heartbreaking case.
