Hon. Hajia Zuwera Leads Gender Committee Engagement with ACEPA and CPC, Reaffirms Commitment to Gender Equality
Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, MP for Salaga South, reaffirmed her commitment to gender equality as she led Parliament’s Gender Committee in an engagement with ACEPA and the Canadian Parliamentary Centre (CPC), focusing on advancing gender mainstreaming and inclusive governance in Ghana.

On the first day of Parliament’s resumption, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, called on the Minister of Energy to urgently address ongoing electricity challenges affecting several communities in her constituency.
Later that day, Hon. Hajia Zuwera chaired a high-level Gender Committee engagement with the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) and the Canadian Parliamentary Centre (CPC). The meeting showcased her steadfast leadership and unwavering dedication to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment within Ghana’s governance structures.
The engagement assessed the progress of a CPC-sponsored program that has significantly supported Ghana’s gender equality agenda—earning the nation recognition as one of the top performers in West Africa for advancing women’s representation and inclusion.
Key Highlights of the Engagement
1. Strengthening Collaboration:
Participants explored opportunities to deepen collaboration between CPC/ACEPA and Ghana’s Parliament to further institutionalize gender mainstreaming across policies and programs.
2. Enhancing Gender Advocacy:
Discussions focused on innovative strategies to elevate gender advocacy and integrate gender perspectives into national development frameworks and legislative initiatives.
3. Sharing Ghana’s Success Story:
Ghana’s achievements in implementing gender equity initiatives were shared as a regional model of best practices, inspiring other West African nations to adopt similar approaches.

As Chairperson of the engagement, Hon. Hajia Zuwera’s leadership reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women and promoting gender-responsive governance in Ghana’s legislative processes.
She also fulfilled her parliamentary responsibilities by attending roll call in the chamber, in accordance with Standing Order 14.
The ongoing partnership between Parliament, CPC, and ACEPA is expected to further strengthen efforts toward inclusive governance, social justice, and gender equity in Ghana.
