Gifty Klenam

Former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has expressed her appreciation to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the opportunity to serve but stated that her decision to defect was based on principle.

Her defection from the NPP to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was made public on Thursday, January 30. Klenam, who also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, explained that her political journey has been guided by her values and convictions.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Channel One News on Thursday, Klenam emphasized that politics is a path where individuals must choose their direction.

“I am grateful for the opportunity NPP gave me to serve two terms in parliament. I am rather grateful, I have no problem with the NPP at all. It [defecting to the NDC] is about principles.

“The political profession we have taken is a journey we are moving on so you choose as and when it best suits the purpose for which you got into it,” she said.
