Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Chairperson of the 19-member Taskforce dedicated to fulfilling President John Dramani Mahama’s 120-day social contract, has assured Ghanaians of the team’s commitment to delivering on the President’s promises.

Speaking after their inauguration in Accra on Tuesday February 11, Dr Sawyerr emphasised the seriousness with which the Taskforce approaches its mandate and the determination to achieve the set goals.

“By the honour you have bestowed upon us and the confidence you have reposed in us, we know how seriously you take your promises to the people of Ghana. Each promise is done with deep thinking, painstaking calculation, and consideration of various permutations to ensure they are viable, doable, and sustainable,” Dr. Sawyerr stated.

She underscored the importance of the President’s promises, noting that his word is his bond.

Dr. Sawyerr highlighted the Taskforce’s dedication to overcoming any obstacles that may hinder the fulfillment of the President’s promises.

“Woe betide anyone who stands in the way of the performance of your promises to the people of Ghana. So therefore, we pledge to use our utmost endeavors to ensure that we perform on the mandates that you have given us. We will not fail you. We will not fail the people of Ghana, and God be our helper,” she assured.

Among other things the contract entailed constituting the leanest and most efficient government under the Fourth Republic in 90 days, establishing a robust code of conduct for government officials, scrapping e-levy, Covid-19 levy, and other taxes to ease economic burdens, initiate plans for a 24-hour economy policy and implement the ‘no-academic-fee’ policy and free tertiary education for persons with disabilities.

Others are distributing free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools, conduct forensic audits into controversial state deals, banning political appointees from purchasing state assets, allocating seed money for a women’s development bank and banning illegal mining and launching environmental recovery initiatives.
