Ada Member of Parliament(MP), Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe has stated that the chaos that marred the vetting session on Thursday is part of a grand agenda by the Minority.
According to her, the Minority on the Appointments Committee is looking for an opportunity to retaliate, considering that Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh exposed many ills in the previous government.
“We were told Okudzeto’s vetting would take two days and Akandoh a full day. So when the process was delayed into the night, it wasn’t favorable. If it had been any other nominee, there wouldn’t have been any problem because Parliament works late into the night, and it’s no news,” she stated.
The Minority proposed postponing the vetting to Friday, citing concerns over the day’s proceedings.
However, the Majority opposed the suggestion, insisting that the process continue as scheduled, resulting in a heated exchange. The Minority members disrupted the session by breaking tables and microphones in protest against any delay.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem, the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip said the act must be condemned.
“They wanted fresh energy to start the vetting, and that was what they did yesterday,” she claimed.
She urged the Minority to exercise restraint, emphasizing the need for collaborative effort.
“We don’t want to be perceived as intimidating the Minority. Instead, we want to carry them along because we have the numbers and can whip our caucus into line. Even if someone is sick, we will carry the person to the chamber, and there is nothing they [Minority] can do,” she noted.
