Assin South Member of Parliament and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghanaians with the introduction of the so-called “Dumsor Levy.”
In a social media post on Thursday, June 5, he criticized the new levy on fuel, warning it would place a heavy financial burden on the public.
Ntim Fordjour pointed out the stark contrast between the recently abolished e-levy, which charged GH¢10 on every GH¢,1000 sent via mobile money, and the new Dumsor Levy, which imposes a fee of GH¢83 on every GH¢1,000 worth of fuel purchased.
He questioned whether such a costly levy was part of the NDC’s manifesto and suggested voters might have reconsidered their support had they been aware of it.
“Drivers and Okada riders will definitely pass this on to passengers. Private car users will be worse off. In the end, our citizens will be ripped off big time, for the votes they cast for NDC,” Fordjour said.
He emphasized that many Ghanaians were unhappy paying the e-levy and would be even more frustrated with the new fuel levy, which he described as a disingenuous scam.
Mr Fordjour further accused the NDC of denying the reality of load shedding under the previous administration, claiming they rejected calls for a Dumsor schedule.
“Turns out they need to impose a hefty Dumsor Levy on Ghanaians before they could keep our lights on,” he added, describing the levy as worse than the e-levy that was heavily criticized during its implementation.
