The Minority Caucus in Parliament has protested the unresolved collation of results for the Ablekuma North constituency.
Chanting slogans such as “No Ablekuma
North, no government business,”
“Ablekuma North deserve a voice,” the Minority insisted that the constituency deserved representation in Parliament.
Their protest followed an appeal by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga to expedite efforts to conclude the collation process for the Ablekuma North results.
The Electoral Commission (EC) attempted to recollate polling station results for the constituency on January 8, 2025, at its old head office in Accra. However, the exercise was not completed due to three missing polling station results out of 281.
“The Commission wrote to the Ghana Police Service for the continuation of the collation on January 17, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
On the day the collation was expected to take place, the Commission was alerted by the Police that, per intelligence, the exercise should be put on hold,” the EC stated in a release dated January 17.
The situation escalated when some individuals, reportedly led by the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stormed the old EC head office, destroying furniture and louvre blades.
Others invaded the premises of the EC’s new corporate head office on motorbikes, further disrupting the collation process.
