Who Will Win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2026 Primaries?

As the NPP prepares for its January 2026 presidential primaries, polls show a tight race between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. While Bawumia holds an early lead, recent trends suggest Agyapong is gaining momentum—making the outcome unpredictable.

Tight Race for NPP Flagbearer

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is heading for one of its most competitive primaries yet.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong remain the two main contenders, with polls showing a narrowing gap.

An August 2025 Global InfoAnalytics poll gave Bawumia an early lead with 52% support, while Agyapong had 17%.
However, by October 2025, a Sanity Africa poll flipped the results — showing Agyapong at 53.1% and Bawumia at 39%.

Why the Race Is Still Open

The NPP primaries are decided by party delegates, not the general public. Analysts say regional loyalties, delegate mobilization, and last-minute deals will be decisive.
Agyapong’s campaign has gained energy after securing the No. 1 spot on the ballot, while Bawumia still benefits from strong party machinery and establishment backing.

Who’s Likely to Win?

If voting were held today, Kennedy Agyapong appears slightly ahead thanks to his grassroots energy and growing delegate support.
But Bawumia’s institutional advantage and national recognition mean the contest remains too close to call.
