Woman arrested for luring boyfriend into Burkina Faso abduction

The Police in Kasoa in the Central Region have arrested a suspect whose activities are linked to human trafficking in Burkina Faso.
The suspect, Janet Yenka Yinkrug aged 25 years is reported to have lured her boyfriend, Mahmoud Imoro to travel with her to Burkina Faso where the suspect would have proceeded to join her business partners in Spain.
However, the victim was rather abducted in Bobo Dilassou, Burkina Faso and coerced into luring other possible victims.
According to the victim who spoke to Citi News, his girlfriend informed him that she had contacted a Spanish firm that needed workers and that an amount of GH₵ 10,000 was required to facilitate his traveling documents.
However, after making payment, Janet informed the victim that the documents could be easily done in Burkina Faso.
“The lady left me behind in Burkina Faso following heated exchanges between us because I could not comprehend the entire development. I was informed that there were no arrangements in Spain, so I needed to bring other clients if I needed my money back.
They seized my phone and made me go hungry for days. Finally, I began contacting other possible clients,” said the victim.
According to Imoro, he met other victims from different countries in West Africa who had been abducted.
No one was allowed to handle their personal mobile phones without strict supervision making it difficult to contact relatives for help.
Also, the victims were denied food until they successfully lured other victims.
According to him, he escaped while running an errand after spending a year in Burkina Faso, as his captors had come to trust that he would not attempt to flee.
His sister, Mariam Mahmoud, recounting the moments of his arrival said “My brother looked boney. He had no flesh and looked unwell. So, I took him to the pharmacy for some immune boosters and food supplements. He really suffered a lot because they were not properly fed”.
Since December 2025, Imoro’s girlfriend, Janet, had been on the police wanted list before she was arrested in Kasoa following a request from the police in Zebilla.
Mariam wants Janet thoroughly investigated and prosecuted. She is also advocating for West African leaders to break the unsuspecting form of human trafficking syndicate in the sub-region.
