Asawase: Another man shot dead days after killing of Kusasi Chief

Tension is mounting in Asawase following the fatal shooting of an unidentified man by unknown assailants on a motorbike—less than a week after the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region was gunned down in the same area.

According to eyewitnesses, two men on a motorbike opened fire on the victim before speeding off. He died on the spot.

Police and military personnel have since been deployed to the scene, which has been cordoned off. Crime scene investigators are combing the area for evidence as part of ongoing investigations.

This latest incident comes in the wake of the July 22 assassination of Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri.

Azenbe was shot at his residence near the Asawase F-line community centre by gunmen on a motorbike—one of whom was reportedly armed with an AK-47 rifle. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His killing sparked outrage among residents and traditional leaders, with the police promising a thorough investigation.

Authorities have not confirmed any links between the two shootings, but the close timing and proximity have deepened fears among residents.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the latest killing, but sources indicate that security has been reinforced in the area.
