The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Jefferson Asare, has accused the government of prioritizing propaganda over the implementation of their conditions of service.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Asare stated that the government has demonstrated bad faith through its handling of information and public commentary on the ongoing strike.
“We have changed our position for a third time, yet the government has refused to listen to us and instead resorted to propaganda, which won’t help anybody. It will only create problems and make the situation worse,” he said.
“If they think they can win the social and traditional media wars, they should know the reality is at Komfo Anokye, Korle Bu, Ridge, and Walewale, where Ghanaians cannot access health care,” he added.
He emphasized that the striking nurses are not asking for luxury, but for essential tools and conditions that will help them work effectively—requests he believes are not unreasonable.
The GRNMA laid down their tools on Tuesday, June 4, bringing vital healthcare services across more than 300 public hospitals and clinics in all 16 regions to a near standstill.
Thousands of patients have been left stranded, with emergency units operating minimally and scheduled surgeries postponed indefinitely.
